Directions: Go West on 2222 from MOPAC, then take an immediate left onto Balcones. Follow Balcones to where it merges with Parkcrest, this will appear as a left just past the Randall's, but you will still be on Balcones. 3401 Hancock is on the Southwest corner of Hancock & Balcones, Russell's Bakery and Coffee Bar is on the Southeast corner. Turn right onto Hancock and park on the street. If you prefer park across the street at Russell's coffee shop, they will be closed by about 2pm. If you get lost call Dave at 206-0112.

Expressions

EXPRESSIONS is an eclectic mix of Bahai members, poets, musicians, and artists that meets the first Saturday of every month for a poetry-music-pot luck-jamboree. The November EXPRESSIONS topic is "MUSE IS A WOMAN!" and will feature all female performers, including Betty Elders, Amy deAnda, and Anyah Dishon. All are welcomed to join in the "round robin" open mike after the features and share a poem or song with the audience. Poetry starts at 7 p.m. sharp. For those who simply want to socially engage, the kitchen (potluck) area is open at all times.


Please bring a dish that can feed 6-8 hungry people and your own eating utensils. Please note that food and drinks are enjoyed only in the kitchen area, not the Hall (where the performances occur). Everyone is also asked to bring a canned food item to donate to the POETS PANTRY which goes to feeding the homeless. Feel free to invite friends and relatives to attend as well.

Lucky Mutts is a non profit organization with the foremost goal of being a premier canine advocacy group in the Austin and surrounding areas. The group realizes that rescuing single dogs will never make an impact on the plight of the species as a whole. To reduce the number of abandoned and unwanted animals, Lucky Mutts strives to educate the public about responsible dog ownership. You're welcome to bring along a human friend, but our furry, four-legged friends should stay at home so we can eat, talk, and get to know each other without too much chaos! The folks from Lucky Mutts will give us a brief presentation around 8 p.m. or so (and they may have a dog or two with them, but have said they'll also have crates so the dogs will be comfortable and safe during dinner).

Members of the Ishmael community (a.k.a. Ishmaelites) are a diverse group of individuals inspired by the writings of Daniel Quinn and other visionary thinkers. They assume the responsibility to restore our society to a healthy state for all humanity and the rest of the community of life. They also aim to demonstrate how people can live satisfying and sustainable lives based on accumulated wisdom from more than 300,000 years of the successful human experience before the Agricultural "Revolution." Join us for the September potluck to learn more (see additional information about the Austin Ishmael Group below).

We will meet at the picnic tables to the left of the entrance to Barton Springs Pool. Please bring a dish that serves six to eight hungry people and your own plates, utensils and cups and something to drink. Feel free to bring along a friend. (Children are welcome!). There will be a brief, informative presentation by Howie Richey of the Austin Ishmael Community at around 8 p.m.. Folks are also encouraged to take a dip in Barton Springs Pool after the potluck gathering, so remember to bring your bathing suit and a towel. The pool is free from 9-10 p.m.

Town Lake Trail Foundation

The Town Lake Trail Foundation (TLTF) as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation which was formed by runners and friends of the Town Lake Trail to expand, improve, beautify and maintain this scenic network of hike and bike trails along the Colorado River. The Foundation takes contributions from concerned individuals, organizations and corporations and puts them to work to assure the Town Lake Trail remains one of the most natural and well maintained hike and bike paths in the United States. Funds raised go toward trail improvements, which include: expansion, beautification, construction, improved infrastructure, improved facilities, maintenance and clean-up and improved amenities. Join us at the August Potlucker event where our host, Dan Garrison, Executive Director of Town Lake Trail Foundation, will tell us more about the organization and all the great work they are doing. Tikkun is a international community of people of many faiths calling for social justice and political freedom in the context of new structures of work, caring communities, and democratic social and economic arrangements. They seek to influence public discourse in order to inspire compassion, generosity, non-violence and recognition of the spiritual dimensions of life. Our hosts, Anoek and David Inbar will share more with us during a short presentation around 6.30 and will give everybody an opportunity to talk about their "work of passion". Directions:From Mopac take exit Far West (only one way to go form north or south). Go on Far West, past the schools, down the hill. At the bottom of the hill the road turns right and becomes Ladera Norte. Take your first left =Backtrail. Take your seond right= Cerro Cove. Do NOT take your first right, it is called Cedro Cove. Our house is 6408 Cerro Cove on top of the hill, you dead-end into our driveway.

From 360 take 2222 east. Almost immediately take a tiny road left, called Lakewood. Go till Y take the right leg. Take first right =Driftwood . Second left=Lemonwood. We will be meeting at Jim and Pat Hadden's home located at 2400 Westover Road. From Mopac take the Westover Exit and go west on Westover Road. Park somewhere around the third speed bump. Feel free to take a dip in their swimming pool. Please bring your own towels.

Cohousing is a type of "intentional neighborhood" chosen by people who want to know their neighbors and share resources. Central Austin Cohousing is planning a 30-household cohousing community in the new Mueller Neighborhood that's being built at the old airport site. Bring veggie or non-veggie dish (we keep them separate to avoid confusion). We'll have a brief presentation and Q&A about our cohousing project sometime during the evening.

House of Tutors is an organization that provides a number of services to students, including tutoring, test preparation, and ESL instruction. Our ESL program is geared toward international adults who wish to improve their English in order to succeed in their careers, either academic or professional, as well as for personal achievement. We also assist our students with integration into American culture by hosting activities such as potluck dinners and field trips.

Truth Be Told is a 501(3)c nonprofit dedicated to working with women in prison. Our programs provide respectful listening and creative tools for personal and spiritual growth for incarcerated women. We encourage in them a deeper sense of personal responsibility and help them face the truth of their pasts and embrace the hope of their futures. We are not affiliated with any religion or denomination.
