November 2005 EXPRESSIONS is an eclectic mix of Bahai members, poets, musicians, and artists that meets the first Saturday of every month for a poetry-music-pot luck-jamboree. The November EXPRESSIONS topic is "MUSE IS A WOMAN!" and will feature all female performers, including Betty Elders, Amy deAnda, and Anyah Dishon. All are welcomed to join in the "round robin" open mike after the features and share a poem or song with the audience. Poetry starts at 7 p.m. sharp. For those who simply want to socially engage, the kitchen (potluck) area is open at all times.

October 2005 Lucky Mutts is a non profit organization with the foremost goal of being a premier canine advocacy group in the Austin and surrounding areas. The group realizes that rescuing single dogs will never make an impact on the plight of the species as a whole. To reduce the number of abandoned and unwanted animals, Lucky Mutts strives to educate the public about responsible dog ownership. Join us at the October potluck to learn more about their important work. September 2005 Members of the Ishmael community (a.k.a. Ishmaelites) are a diverse group of individuals inspired by the writings of Daniel Quinn and other visionary thinkers. They assume the responsibility to restore our society to a healthy state for all humanity and the rest of the community of life. They also aim to demonstrate how people can live satisfying and sustainable lives based on accumulated wisdom from more than 300,000 years of the successful human experience before the Agricultural "Revolution." Join us for the September potluck to learn more (see additional information about the Austin Ishmael Group below). We will meet at the picnic tables to the left of the entrance to Barton Springs Pool. Please bring a dish that serves six to eight hungry people and your own plates, utensils and cups and something to drink. Feel free to bring along a friend. (Children are welcome!). There will be a brief, informative presentation by Howie Richey of the Austin Ishmael Community at around 8 p.m.. Folks are also encouraged to take a dip in Barton Springs Pool after the potluck gathering, so remember to bring your bathing suit and a towel. Town Lake Trail Foundation Saturday, August 27, 7:00-9:00 PM Barton Springs Pool, 2101 Barton Springs Road, Austin TX The Town Lake Trail Foundation (TLTF) as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation which was formed by runners and friends of the Town Lake Trail to expand, improve, beautify and maintain this scenic network of hike and bike trails along the Colorado River. The Foundation takes contributions from concerned individuals, organizations and corporations and puts them to work to assure the Town Lake Trail remains one of the most natural and well maintained hike and bike paths in the United States. Funds raised go toward trail improvements, which include: expansion, beautification, construction, improved infrastructure, improved facilities, maintenance and clean-up and improved amenities. Join us at the August Potlucker event where our host, Dan Garrison, Executive Director of Town Lake Trail Foundation, will tell us more about the organization and all the great work they are doing. July 2005 Tikkun is a international community of people of many faiths calling for social justice and political freedom in the context of new structures of work, caring communities, and democratic social and economic arrangements. They seek to influence public discourse in order to inspire compassion, generosity, non-violence and recognition of the spiritual dimensions of life. Our hosts, Anoek and David Inbar will share more with us during a short presentation around 6.30 and will give everybody an opportunity to talk about their "work of passion". March 2005 House of Tutors is an organization that provides a number of services to students, including tutoring, test preparation, and ESL instruction. Our ESL program is geared toward international adults who wish to improve their English in order to succeed in their careers, either academic or professional, as well as for personal achievement. We also assist our students with integration into American culture by hosting activities such as potluck dinners and field trips. Our programs provide respectful listening and creative tools for personal and spiritual growth for incarcerated women. We encourage in them a deeper sense of personal responsibility and help them face the truth of their pasts and embrace the hope of their futures.
